They're releasing it under the Apache licence 2? Impressive. That definitely seems like something the Mono project could just utilise directly without any licence concerns.

Xamarin is selling licenses to proprietary gamedevs for quite a while now. That may put a dent in their business.

The mono compiler (that Xamarin uses, and would presumably be replaced by the Roslyn compiler), is released under GPL and MIT X11 licenses (

)
I don't think this will have any effect on Xamarin licenses at all.
