My number one feature request for maps (Apple and Google) would be to intelligently scale labels like street names.
At the moment they don't scale at all when you zoom in. This is especially a problem with far-sightedness in outdoor situations where near-vision glasses and varifocals are often not worn.
I acknowledge that this is not as easy as linearly scaling with zoom because you also have to avoid cluttering and clashing labels, but no scaling is too simple in my opinion. When I zoom in, there is often enough room for the label to expand a little and make it readable. As a last resort there could be a zoom toggle that switches zoomable labels on and off.
I don't see how the color scheme change helps with accessibility and readability. Okay, maybe the contrast with road names was bad before, but the major point was that important roads (like avenues) were highlighted in YELLOW.
Now every road is the same color and you can't distinguish between important and secondary roads.
This is why I prefer the OpenStreetMap scheme even though it has its share of controversies. At least they have rules to color important roads so they stand out more on the map.

As it’s often said, OpenStreetMap is just the data :)
One can style/render it differently.
