Ask HN: Why has the HN theme changed?

There's a darker orange banner and alternating numbers are coloured! It's a bit distracting

It's a Christmas theme. I think they leave it up only 24 hours? I'm not sure.

You can change your top bar color. Mine is not the standard, so I forgot they did something to the top bar. I only have the alternating colored numbers.

I thought I had landed on a new feature. Lol

Ah! That's a relief to know. Thanks!

This seems to be a bigger problem than just HN. Several of my neighbors put distracting lights on their houses without considering color theory. I noticed some green and red decorations at the grocery store too, clashing with the usual white/blue theme.

I had planned to spend Friday catching up on HN but after two minutes with these colors my eyes starting watering. Who decides to make these arbitrary changes?

I'm developing a hypothesis (which I will eventually describe in a Medium post) that these color changes and attempts at decoration coincide with certain days of the year, but I haven't quite worked out the pattern yet.

Interesting theory. I'd like to add some further data points. I received a number of messages through various communication channels today encouraging me to celebrate and be merry. This is very unusual as I am not a person who enjoys merriment nor do I receive regular correspondence from my circle of peers. Further investigation is required.

It's likely some kind of wide-scale PSYOPS program similar to MKULTRA at play across all sectors of media and society. The military industrial social media pharmaceutical complex, compromised by Chinese Communist Party controllers, has clearly replaced one or more of your peers with doppelgangers intent on manipulating your emotions in ways that encourage the production of seratonin and endorphines, numbing your perception and making you easier to control. Every social media platform is just an NSA Skinner box whose purpose is to control and manipulate your every thought and action in order to manufacture consent for America's constant endless wars and crimes against humanity.

This is clearly the final push by the Biden campaign to steal the election for the Illuminati and install the One World Order. The constant, droning repitition of facile chants and slogans in every store and on every streetcorner, the sudden presence of Occult symbols, weird rituals involving children sitting on the laps of strange old men, jarring and distracting color schemes everywhere, and everyone's behavior coordinating as if they were drones. It's so similar to Nazi indoctrination that it's truly chilling. We're in the final phases of the Left's Orwellian takeover. This will be the inevitable and intended result of cancel culture - soon the BLM shock troops will fill the streets and the snows will run red with Christian blood.

And no one is even talking about Hunter Biden's briefcase. Coincidence? I THINK NOT.

I overheard some immature humans referring to “Santa Claus.” I deduced that they expected this Santa person (?) to deliver gifts to them today. Has anyone heard of this? What belief system do these children subscribe to?

Santa Claus is clearly the Great Beast spoken of in Revelations, secret Archon of the Global Leftist New World Order.

He dresses in red, the color of Communism. He has occult powers traditionally associated with witchcraft, like flight, animal familiars and mind control. He receives offerings like a pagan deity. He routinely disregards national borders and private property, making a mockery of the sovereignty of states, the rule of law and individual liberty. He distributes goods not in exchange for the profit compensation of labor as determined by a capitalist free market, but through a determination of a child's "wants" and "needs." Clearly indoctrinating children into accepting Marxist propaganda.

And finally, SANTA is an anagram for SATAN.

I mean, wake up sheeple!

I require an explanation for the these red and green colors showing up on the 25th of December!

Merry Christmas HN. :)

Lmfao! This really is the most "HN" thread I've ever seen. Merry Christmas, all.

Keep in mind that this is a highly international site and thus there are many users who aren't thinking in terms of Christmas and have no idea of the color associations.

The contrast is too small in the navigation bar now, very hard to read the black on dark red unless I turn the brightness up very high. And the coloring of the numbers doesn't really do much good either, I agree.

If you have enough karma you can change your topcolor ... the color of your nav banner.

I can, but only when logged in. I still have this weird habit of letting my browser clear cookies when I close tabs, and using multiple devices that do so. For example, I am never logged in on my phone, I just use it for reading.

Also, I don't know the numbers but I bet there are a multitude more visitors and readers than active participants on HN, so the defaults are very relevant.

This could be the exemplar of HN complaints: simultaneously very specific and personal, concerning something trivial, humorless, and projected onto the world at large.

Ok, but please don't be a jerk on HN, even when another comment is annoying or seems stereotypical.
