I'm a firearms enthusiast and was shocked to read that the rotating trigger mechanism wasn't outlawed. It almost definitely will be after this massacre.

I also think that this is a strong case of genetics at play considering that the shooter didn't even spend time with his bank robber father. The psychopath apple didn't fall far from the psychopath tree.

I understand everyone is upset about what this terrorist did, so am I.

However, we should be cautious about making statements about genetics. Apart from there not being any major scientific research behind it, it also leads to disturbing effects like the state detaining blood relatives of someone that commits crime because they will be more at risk of committing crimes in the future, thought-crimes, etc.

> this terrorist

Do we know this? Do we know what his motivation was?

Does his motivations make it any less terrorizing for the victims?

It strikes terror (in the sense of _fear_) into the victims there and then all the same, sure. I was talking about whether or not it constitutes _terrorism_, though. I mean, it's terrorism if the purpose is to spread fear in a way that will further some cause, but not every killing is terrorism, right?

[flagged]

As opposed to a crazy black dude. Or a hysterical white woman. Is that what you mean?

Not yet, but considering the sheer amount of guns in his hotel and home plus the explosives I'm willing to bet something motivated him more than mental illness.

I'm afraid I don't follow. Are you referring to something particular? (Sorry for being thick!)

They found explosives and chemicals to make more at his home: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-10-03/las-vegas-shooting-gun...

He's not just a random crazy person that bought a gun and went on a spree, there was a lot of planning involved, so he's probably a terrorist of some sort.

Deliberately planning mass murder doesn't make you a terrorist, just a mass murderer; terrorism is defined by a very specific kind of motivation that is far from the only motivation for planned mass murder.

> I also think that this is a strong case of genetics at play considering that the shooter didn't even spend time with his bank robber father. The psychopath apple didn't fall far from the psychopath tree.

Wow doesn't that fit nicely into some narrative. His phrenologic profile was off the charts too and a Virgo on top of that!

What narrative? That science is important? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2242349/#!po=15...

There's more where that came from.

> It almost definitely will be after this massacre.

No new gun control laws came out of Sandy Hook, or any of the other mass shootings in this decade. Why should this one be any different?

It won't. Our senators and congressmen are cowards.

I am not an enthusiast, hence the question - if outlawed, how difficult would it be for someone to re-create it in a metal shop, or with a 3D printer? I'd assume the designs are floating on the Internet somewhere.

Even the hallowed 'automatic sear' is just an arrangement of small metal shapes and springs. The annual volumes of Jane's Infantry Weapons used to have diagrams and detailed descriptions of the sears' operation. It's only penalties of law that prevents people making or distributing them, not complexity or wizardry.

On the other hand the majority of NATO training emphasises rapid single shots, with bursts only for initiating ambush or breaking contact ( and usually only when authorised by the NCO ). Being limited to single-shot isn't therefore too much of a restriction.

I think the lack of a father figure plays into more than genetics.

Additionally, fathers and sons share more than just genetics. They quite often share upbringing and culture. Not to mention the Father set that example of bank robbing.

I was surprised to see how simple the crank modification was http://twozprecision.com/product/gatcrank-15/

Looks like a bump stock was used though https://apnews.com/e74a33083fb84b1b94c1ce3da986fd4f

I think it's funny that you chose hover boards. I haven't seen one in use in any major US city I've visited this year. I'm sure some people still use them, but thanks to terrible Chinese engineering that caused fires and failures, I don't know anyone that's bought one after the first couple of months that they were a fad.

Apart from the product failure, I think we have all heard the stories of people having those as christmas gifts and ending up in ER for injuries on the same day.

That could have been overshadowed if they could satisfy a niche. They are neither useful for going to work nor Indy Grabbing. Let's just hope next time the trend turns toward something like that it solves a problem.

I noticed that people pushing Philadelphia never mention its bad crime rate. Amazon might not be explicitly mentioning that in the criteria, but I'm sure it can't help.

I lived there for five years, five years ago. We used to joke that drunk driving was a minor league sport and that "It's Always Sunny..." is actually a documentary. Literally half the people I knew had at least one DUI on their records, and the rest all had a scare-story where the cop let them go. "Imagine a town in which everyone has at least a little larceny in their hearts," elicits a few proud chuckles from my friends still there. Camden, NJ is the only city I've ever seen with more litter. They booed and threw icey snowballs at Santa Claus at a football game in 1968 and they still talk about it like it proves how great the fan culture is. They are very proud that their sports fans are the loudest, drunkest, and most violent. It's the only town in which I've been challenged to a fight just because I was in the room.

I loved it in my twenties. The food and drink scene in DC is nothing in comparison, and there is a yuppiness here that is interminable. But too many yoga and spin-class studios and too-expensive beer aren't going to literally kill me. Philly earns all of its bad nicknames.

I agree. So far my grocery experience with Amazon has been awful. Two items were returned by the shipper due to damage before they even got to my house. Another was crushed when it got to my house because Amazon's packaging was terrible. They kept trying to give me a refund instead of a replacement and all I could say was "I ordered this food because I wanted to buy it and eat it, why would I just want my money back?". So if that's how they manage to run Whole Foods, then I guess I'm all-in on Trader Joe's.

I saw the FLIP when I was sailing one time. If I hadn't previously read about it I probably would have called the coast guard because it looked like a ship going down.

Also the sea king helos. When they do water landings everyone panics.

Well communism caused even more suffering, so should we shut down every communist site as well?

> If Breitbart or /pol/ are hosting discussions [...] advocating to take terrorist actions and they do not moderate [...] they actually should be shut down.

> [...] shut down every communist site as well?

And you completely disregarded the conditions why?

And christian sites? Christianity caused much suffering, christening whole nations by the sword, the crusades etc.

Not to mention colonialism, imperialism and corporatism.

Any website that promotes terrorism and hateful discrimination should be opposed.

That doesn't fit Communism, but that's the definition of Nazis.

Yeah, Communists love everyone regardless their views or education or property or line of work.

disagreement != discrimination. Plus, the ideology does not encourage domestic terrorism.

You mean communists don't discriminate people they don't agree with? Take a look at any communist-ish state what happens when they get a chance to discriminate said people.

As for domestic terrorism, when was the last leftist riot?

No, again, discrimination != disagreement.

Communism, as an ideology, disagrees with capitalism... and capitalism equally disagrees with communism.

However neither ideology discriminates against the other - a capitalist company will employ a communist if the individual is a productive employee, and a communist commune will welcome a capitalist if they strengthen the commune.

Individuals within both groups do advocate for violence against the other, but the ideologies do not. Contrast that with Nazism or literal Islamism - ideologies that explicitly espouses violence and discrimination against "the other".

> if they strengthen the commune

That's the key part. Either you're one and fit the narrative, or you gotta GTFO in communism. You couldn't come to communist commune and establish a company or bank or invest money or whatever like in capitalist community. It's not like you could come in and own personal property as in capitalism either. The most you could do would be a closet capitalist and keep your ideas to yourself. But you could be a closet gay in nazi country too.

When communists came to my country, it wasn't pretty. Either become one and dropped property if you had anything worthwhile or you were fucked. To be fair, I don't know how else could they have attempted to install communism. But communism doesn't tolerate different ideologies on the same soil.

And today's communists do discriminate capitalists on day-to-day affairs. E.g. disregard of private property. Wether it's calling a gay person names or spitting on rich man's car, both are discriminating people that don't fit one's narrative. Ultimately, if either person got into power, they'd do harm to the other person or at least kick them out from the community.

Of course, somewhat personal action feels worse than doing something to property. But ultimately it's the same - discrimination based on one's ideas.

I really hope that some massive lawsuits finally put and end to this. Amazon deserves anything bad that comes their way. The amount of fake items I've received from them is awful.

Are you getting fake items when you order from Amazon, or when you order from a third party through Amazon?

Considering that the CEO of Admiral considers himself a "beloved VC" (literally his words), I'm guessing he'll keep stepping up his agressive tactics. Typical sociopathic behavior from the type that believes that money trumps everything and that everyone worships him.

No, extended stay places do not require an extended stay. They are just equipped to provide for an extended stay should you choose to do so.

Just because some Wikipedia editor writes something doesn't make it a fact. There are other relevant quotes in there from the governments of the U.K. And US saying that it's not a chemical weapon.

GP explicitly references Wikipedia as an authority, that should not suddenly be grounds to dismiss a reply.

The US saying it is not a chemical weapon is a bit like them declaring 'enhanced interrogation' not torture.
