No ARM CPU, but there was an aftermarket conversion called the X62[0], with upgraded display and Intel Broadwell CPU. I think it's mostly been supplanted by an X201 conversion, the X210[1].

In terms of protection, sure, but for actual system performance, Defender is still hot garbage:

Part of amphetamine's effects include an increase in energy during the day, which helps make you tired in the evening when it wears off.

Sometimes instant release (Adderrall or Dexedrine) is prescribed to supplement a time release version, particularly if you experience "the 5 o'clock crash".

If your on something like Vyvanse, you might have to up the dose after months, possibly even years, as your tolerance builds. Supposedly it's possible to reach a dose that balances against your metabolism, and you won't need to increase it again.

I found that, at a high enough dose, my jaw started clenching quite a bit, and I had the occasional heart murmurs. I do drink the equivalent of 3-4 cups of coffee on a regular basis.

If anyone experiences those side effects, I highly recommend chelated magnesium. Worked wonders for me.

Thanks for the info! I thought for a while that it was causing tension in my neck and shoulders but that has eased off which is a relief.

I think I might be reaching that point, it's nice to hear that it's normal and expected. I am on the lowest dose of Concerta that my doctor can give me and it was great for a while but I feel like it's less effective.

Your phone probably isn't compromised.

It's common where I am to get spam phone calls that spoof Caller ID to match the area code and first 3 digits of your own number, to appear "local" and make you think it might be someone you know.

I tend to get calls in bursts. Sometimes it's the same robocall 3 times a day for a week.

Phone companies also reuse numbers, and their lists of active numbers leak now and then, so even if you get a "new" number, you can still get spam. I don't know how feasible it is for spammers to wardial every number, but it might be possible.

And I think there used to be a bug where certain characters in a text could crash am iPhone, or something to that effect.

Apple has spam detection in the Messages app now. If it's anything like email, spammers will try anything to bypass it, like replacing characters.

So in conclusion, there's not much you can do about it until phone companies fix Caller ID.

I see this technique very frequently too - I have to wonder if this technique work to get people to answer!? Personally if I see a call from a 415 number that isn't already saved in my contacts list, I hang up and block it immediately because the chance it is spam is so high!

I always find it hilarious when the spammers accidentally spoof a leading "+" and I get a phone call from Romania.

Since when? They used Pentalobe on just about everything the last decade.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentalobe_security_screw

Though it's gotten easier to get pentalobe screwdrivers, albeit made of Chinesium.

Apple products often use pentalobe only for the outer casing, and standard torx for all the interior screws.

I had to get the seeds out of Google Authenticator several years ago. The seeds were stored in an SQLite database file in the app directory. I think I used another app to read the DB file and export the seeds to plain text, but you could also conceivably copy the file to a computer and work from there, though you might need root access either way.

Yes, all of this requires a rooted phone or otherwise subverting the Android security model.

A potential alternative could be finding an ancient APK that didn't have the 'prevent backup' bit set, downgrading via adb install, and pulling an adb backup. Still, massive PITA.

Other provinces have funds as well, and the federal government just allocated a couple billion to the programs in Alberta, BC, and Saskatchewan, as part of the COVID response. My employer's already gotten some extra subcontracting work out of those programs.

Yay for jobs programs, I guess.

as far as jobs programs go, that's actually a good one.

Backblaze personal backup used to only keep files for 30 days from your last activity, although I see they now let you keep old files for a year, for an extra $2/month.

Personally, I use Arq Backup and Backblaze B2 (their “real” cloud storage). Arq is a one-time paid app that does differential encrypted backups to your choice of local storage or cloud provider.

Keeping 1TB of backups cost me around $5 per month, and the files won’t disappear on me if my computer stops working for a month.

https://www.arqbackup.com/

If anyone looking to try it but wants something open source for a client, have a look at http://restic.net. Been using it to backup V MO to B2 for over a year now.

Also, Arq is “one time buy” just for one version apparently.

I've discovered Restic while playing with Golang, looks pretty neat. Have you had any issues with stability or corruption of your data? what are you using for encryption (if any?) thanks in advance.

Restic backs up my NAS to B2 without issue. I don't have a file set that changes much though, but it includes backup verification via `restic check`

Sounds good, I will def give it a go! (no pun intended) :)

That seems much cheaper than S3. I assume even Glacier isn’t that much cheaper per month and a pain to pay to take files out.

Also on a Mac. File preview works when .ratrc is present, otherwise just a file list and selector. Are you sure it's at ~/.config/rat/.ratrc ?

If it is in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME, why name the file with a leading dot? To me, that's a bit confusing.

Ah, that was my mistake. Thanks!

Not OP, but the system is described at [0], and apparently hasn't been released yet. Code for this particular story appears to be available at [1], although:

> This code depends on package:egamebook which is not yet open source. Until that happens, you won't be able to build this project unless you're part of the development team (reach out to filiphracek@ if you're interested).

This is correct. Both these things (the game and the system) are kind of big, at least in terms of time invested, but what I released yesterday was the game. Technically, it's also the system's first major release (there was another small game 2 years ago [0]).

If anyone wants to hack on this, I'm open to giving them access to the egamebook repo, somehow (I wish there was a github per-user privacy setting...). I just don't yet have the documentation and time to make a full open-source release — not at the quality I'd expect from a project like this.

I appreciate your response, as well as lambda_tango's.

Not sure if it matters, but consider this my interest in this project as a user. I unfortunately am next to useless when it comes to programming, but I could easily see this being wonderful as a platform or integrated into plenty of existing platforms as a plugin. It's a very slick presentation and works well for what it's meaning to do.

I would also just add that opening up the code doesn't mean you have to have perfect docs in place. This is a great idea, though, and I enjoyed the game.
