I'm a middle aged perl programmer who definitely isn't chromatic, and it definitely doesn't suck. On the other hand I spent a decade struggling through working inthe health system, then another decade through the university system (for whom I have turned down several pices of work over the past week), so I have a frame of reference.

Having said that, as a perl programmer, I seem to be hugely in demand for flashy javascript at the moment.
