I find that i adapt to color schemes pretty quickly and subconsciously. Using the same theme and going from JavaScript to Java, for example, you'll see a lot of different colors on average--lots more class names in Java, for example, so lots more red, in my case. But to me it's less about what color means what, and more about the patterns. If other strings are yellow and mine isn't, problem. If the name I'm using doesn't match the function argument I'm expecting to use, maybe i need a `this.`.

It does seem self evidently bad to use the same color for multiple different things. I feel like bold and italic text can be helpful there, like maybe you reuse a color but change the style depending on context.

Honestly i think when the majority of the content is one color, my brain just writes it off as one big block of stuff to skim over, whereas everything with it's own color actually makes more sense to me.

And yeah, i didn't spot the "retunr", but if i were typing it in real time and the word didn't match my mental map for "return," i probably would still notice.
