Things You Should Never Plug into a Power Strip (bobvila.com)

The power strips I use are not vulnerable to most of the issues listed. The Tripp Lite Isobar power strips use oversized gauge wire and a heavy gauge metal enclosure. They are expensive but totally worth it in my opinion. Anecdotally I gave a couple of them to a family member. The old 2 gauge wiring under ground installed in the 1950's was not in a conduit and created a ground-loop and a short smoking all the power strips in the house but the Isobar just had a red LED lit up and was fine otherwise. They also reduce line noise quite a bit.

SYAC: Anything that draws a fair amount of power, such as coffee makers, portable heaters, etc.

Don't daisy-chain extension cords and power strips.
