It astounds me the kind of stuff Apple gets away with this days that Microsoft could have never dreamed of doing in the 90's. Can anyone imagine if Microsoft had required its approval of applications like Netscape before allowing Windows users to install them? Can anyone imagine if Microsoft had sued BeOS or RedHat for infringement of patents as trivial as pinch-to-zoom?

And now they're doing exactly that with Windows 8 apps, and nobody cares because Apple made walled gardens cool.
