I hope meta invests more in alternatives as maybe we'll find something better. If not, then meta just loses a bit of R&D budget. They are still heavily invested in regular LLM development, so it's not like they are trading one for the other.

I strongly agree. FAANG has the money to do the research. LLMs are far from intelligent - AGI will require a number of other advances.
