The Dutch word 'kunt' (je kunt = you can) gets censored in WoW because of 'cunt'. That is, if you have mature language filter on. I have this on because I have no interest in raging kids in said game, but I do want to read simple, common Dutch words. Annoys me to this day. CS gave the obvious answer (WONTFIX, with obvious workaround disabling the mature language filter altogether). It could be solved easily by looking at context instead of simple blacklisting. I connect from a Dutch IPv4. I sometimes talk Dutch. The same would be true for the other endpoint.
by extension, should 'kanker' or 'tering' be filtered? spoken as an appreciator of dutch but by no means a fluent speaker, i've always loved the dutch custom of using illnesses as insults :)
Kolere (cholera), too. Do you want minors to use or learn such words? My answer to that question is a resounding 'no'. Although to be fair, not always is such a word harmful or toxic.
i mean, frankly, if the words aren't rooted in societal prejudice, i don't really care much *. kids have to go through a phase of exploring language and part of that is swearing and insults. i was lucky to have parents who explained to me that sometimes it's okay to swear but to measure your situation and environment and act accordingly - a lesson framed in language but applicable to all aspects of life.
plus it's real funny when kids say "shit".
* even still, this can be an opportunity for learning empathy. i definitely accidentally switched a slur i'd read for a totally different term of endearment when talking to a friend as a kid and... well, i regret it a lot but i never did it again.
I do not mind an occasional swear + excuse me, if genuine. We all make mistakes. In WoW, some people can rage, or an entire realm spams Anal [Achievement]. E.g. Anal [You're Doing It Wrong] or (and this one I find terribly inappropriate) Anal [For The Children]. Sure, I can see humor in such, too, but repeated endless and some combos are disgusting...
