Are these really cost effective for that usecase?

Not really. Smaller scenes you’d use nvidia GPU, larger scenes you’d probably save money doing normal servers.

You run a render farm made of macs?

Did. Until I locked all the artists out of their work accidentally when I went one lunch break. Screwed up a Fw config.
