Living near Ithaca, NY, I often see bald eagles when out on bird walks.
But this doesn't compare to some years ago during a cold winter in Illinois. The Mississippi River had mostly frozen over, and a very large group of bald eagles had congregated in the Quad Cities area near the dams, where the outflow kept the water clear of ice and stunned fish for them to eat. I mean: hundreds of eagles, clogging up city parks, in the trees, on the ground, everywhere. It was remarkable.
