Has anyone actually tried to use AI in a live environment to order takeout or make a reservation by phone? I am really tempted to try, but feel like it's deeply violating an unwritten rule of human decency to do this on an unsuspecting local restaurant.
If I was a restaurant worker, there's a pretty high likelihood I'd just hang up on a call like this or try to call back and reach a human.
This is the time of rewriting unwritten rules. As someone who spent about 18 years working in restaurants I can tell you that as long as the thing can actually do the thing such that I'm successfully able to trade food for money I wouldn't care if it was an AI and on a busy day I might not even notice.
I've gotten calls asking if the business (not a restaurant) was going to be open on a holiday. It was clearer than a typical person calling, quick, and easy to confirm. I'd rather take these calls than actual people.
