I know this is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek but it doesn't make sense. There absolutely are wages without electricity. There are no wages without sales - either to an investor or a customer. It's the absolute foundation of a business without which there is nothing.

Are you sure? I'm pretty certain wages were being paid long before electricity was invented and will be paid long after WW3 when there are no power stations left.
