It’s more than ironic, it’s self-undermining…

How so? It is where I keep a small blog for myself about building Shepherd.com. It has barely any readers and keeps me sane and having fun.

Because every additional article posted on the non ‘indie web’ is literally reducing the relative credibility/importance/etc. of the ‘indie web’ by a tiny bit… which is unnoticeable for just one, but when you add up millions…

I don't understand, Substack is the indie web as well. It is a fantastic platform for the indie web to use.

Can you explain in more detail what you are saying?

Because Substack is not part of the indie web anymore in 2024… organizations that grow in size eventually cross that threshold.

Otherwise Facebook would still be part of the ‘indie web’…

Substack is a tool that the indie web uses :)

If Nike has a Substack that is not the indie web.

If I use Substack that is.

Don't get hung up on tools, focus on who is using it to speak and create.

Ever heard of ‘the medium is the message’?

For sure, but they didn't mean people arguing to the death over if writing with a pencil or pen is better :)

Don't get so focused on tools, focus on the message.
