Grandma trapped in elevator for six days survived by rationing groceries (guinnessworldrecords.com)

For me, the most interesting part of the article was this:

"Her apartment block was on Anexartisias Street, a bustling shopping area, however, Kively was the only person living inside the four-storey building – all the other apartments were empty."

Is this the result of population decline, or of investors buying and just holding without renting out?

Seems odd that an entire residential building has only one tenant. Wikipedia[1] states: "The Limassol municipality is the most populated in Cyprus". So there should be demand.

Investors? In 1988? In Cyprus?

Hah! The article reads "Published 16 January 2024" in large font right under the title. Then below it says 1988. I guess my eyes skipped over that part.

This makes it even more strange, as in 1988 there were no investors buying empty apartments, and probably more young families needing accommodation.

Maybe they saw it coming ...

You must read this incredibly detailed article about elevators.

https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2008/04/21/up-and-then-do...

Discusses a man who was trapped in an elevator over a weekend, he never worked again.

Wow.-

PS. Username somewhat relevant ...

This happened in 1988. Tomorrows grandma would make trapped selfies and boost her subscribers by live vlogging the situation. She'd be out in 15 minutes.

... and, not to mention, order groceries online, delivered right to the elevator.-

"By the fourth day, she had weakened further and no longer felt hunger or thirst..."

So, the feeling of hunger disappears after a few days of fasting or semi-fasting? I would assume that hunger will increase. You'll start to dream about nothing but food.

People, who do fasting over weeks, tell me, that the first days are filled with horrible cravings, headaches and hunger. After that it is mostly smooth sailing and they talk about having more energy despite eating almost nothing. The body uses the fat reserves and muscles for energy. When these reserves are used up, the body will shutdown different functions and at the end, die.

I read somewhere (not sure if accurate), that the body always has around 500,000 calories in reserve, so starving is a very long process.
