Yes - my wife said when she was diagnosed, she was told to keep the faith as there would probably be a cure in 5 years.

That was 34 years ago.



Which is a wonderful improvement since the 60s when kids were told they'd die horribly by 40!


Yes - she was very upset when she was told she'd get a certificate if she lives for another 50 years (not the best thing to say to an 11 year old).

She REALLY didn't think she'd live to 40.

The technology has greatly improved - her closed loop pump has been life changing. Not a cure though and things still go wrong.

So - when things are tough, they are very tough but thankfully there are fewer of those days now.
