This hit home very hard. Particularly as someone who got laid off earlier this year from a job that they started in person in 2018 and then went and stayed fully remote once COVID started.
Currently doing some consulting at a fully remote company. It’s my first time working with a group of folks that are totally remote and had no pre-existing relationship. While it’s the extreme since i’m considered a hired hand and not part of the their digital community, it has made me quite certain I want my next role to be hybrid.
I’m also 34M, who is childless, and married to someone who works very long in person hours. Some of my loneliness is related to just what happens when you go from your 20s to 30s. But not sure that would change how I view working with folks I’ve never met and don’t often talk to. If anything it would make me less engaged in my work.
