You know how all the begats in Genesis have ridiculously long lives? It's because when they started airbrushing out Foobar and Bletch and all the other patriarchs who had supported the religion in the early days, they still had to make the "All the days of" line totals come out correctly, so they lengthened the lives of the remaining ones. At first no one might notice, but by the time it was getting ridiculous it was already tradition.
Then again, Enoch got taken away by G#d one day for questioning, and no one, not even his 3 century year old son Methuselah, ever saw him after that...
