Greed isn’t the problem. All companies and organizations in general are greedy for more resources and greater responsibility.
Boeing is guilty of lack of foresight, lack of technical proficiency, lack of engineering culture. The problem is stupidity. Incompetence. Putting powerpoint monkeys and financial finanglers in charge and relegating the problem-solvers to the lower reaches of the pyramid.
Boeing is guilty of lack of foresight, lack of technical proficiency, lack of engineering culture.
They didn't lack any of those things. They had all of this in the recent past but intentionally dismantled it --- for the sake of quick profit --- aka greed.
If this is their attempt at making a quick buck then it is the work of idiots.
I will contend further that trying to make a quick buck out of a massive, ongoing company with long-term potential is also the work of idiots - simply don’t rock the boat and you’ll make billions upon billions more.
They lack a true engineering culture that goes all the way to the top.
“It’s almost impossible for people outside of this company to really grasp the vast scope and complexity of our vehicles,” said Boeing Chief Engineer Howard McKenzie, who has worked alongside Pope for years. “She is at home in the technical space.”
Boeing is a good example of the opposite --- out of success comes failure --- when you allow greed to become the driving force.
