When exports fail, Slack says data will be deleted unless you sign new contract (twitter.com/austen)

I abandoned slack the moment they dropped web-based client support. Deployed different client on my own infra, and never looked back. Nobody even noticed.

Slack export fails, Slack team says the only way to not have data enter ‘deletion queue’ is to sign new contract

Please don't post summary comments like this. There has been an uptick of them lately, and it's not a good trend for HN.

The idea of HN threads is good, curious conversation, and that requires avoiding formulaic responses, even if they're well-intentioned.

HN added this comment based on my submission. I simply filled out the form that was provided for making new submissions. Sounds like if users don’t want comments like this that HN should change their submission form.

What dang is saying is that you shouldn't post a summarizing comment with your submission.

Yes, HN has the option of submitting a comment with and when you create a post, but that the use of that should be to provide your own commentary or context, not merely to re-hash the post itself.

And yes, the additional text you provide with a text link does appear as a comment, that's intentional, see e.g.,:

<https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29543426>

<https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7897019>

<https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=18652492>

(Not HN staff or a mod, just a long-term member.)

THat's true - if you submit both a link and text, HN's software will (usually) convert the text to a comment. I take your point that that wasn't exactly what you intended, and I'm sorry for misunderstanding.

Slack should get sued for this.

this is one reason why you always have to keep your offline copy. always. from the beginning.
