Ask HN: WTF Is YouTube Doing?

As of the past weekend, Youtube is almost unbearably slow doing anything on my iMac running Safari. Yes, I use a content blocker (1Blocker) and a DNS sinkhole (Adguard), BUT, I pay for Youtube Premium.

I finally started paying for Premium in response to their attempts to stop ad blocking, but now they have my money; apparently they never wanted it in the first place, just my data.

A few weeks ago when a lot of people complained about this, it turned out to be a bug in AdBlock. Try switching to uBlock Origin for a while and see if that helps?

Yeah you have too many potential points of failure there, disable them then enable one by one to find the culprit.

It's been running terribly on Firefox for me but works fine on Chrome.

Once downloaded, the video files can be played anywhere, on any device.

This is what I use. You need to browse YT to get the relevant URLs you want to download, so YT will still be in the mix. Unless you source the URLs another way?

I was using the RSS feeds, but some time after I added my comment, this appeared:

So besides the occasional forwarded link posted by someone else, one would have to browse YT (or search via a search engine) to find links to download.
