The overall safety of these planes is pretty astounding, that it managed to land safely.


I think the idea is that engine failures are supposed to be contained meaning they don't fling debris potentially into the plane itself. I'd say in this case, they got lucky and the debris didn't impact the plane. It will be interesting to see what comes of this investigation and whether there will be any fixes/improvements to the rest of the existing (and vast) global A330 fleet.
