IIRC this was the fork of the abandoned Truecrypt which had its code verified and basically certified to have no backdoors or major cock-ups, and then given a new (terrible) name before quietly fading into the background…

Truecrypt was really great, and I enjoyed their take on plausible deniability, but haven’t used it since maybe 2006.
