I'm glad I learned how to figure out the shape of a function, even though graphing calculators were already a mature technology at the time I was learning that (and had been even more obsoleted by jupyter notebooks by the time I entered the workforce).

It's al very tricky to figure out what foundational knowledge will be useful in 15 years (that's why we pay educators the big bucks ... oh wait ...), but just because it's hard and uncertain doesn't mean it isn't valuable to try to figure it out.
