250 k to get to a point where your employable. Work with no seniority for at least a decade while making shit money before you get a decent schedule. Spend entire career working crazy hours, family life suffers and never getting decent sleep on lay overs.
Finally 5 years before you are forced to retire, you possible get captain and get to pick a decent schedule while making huge money(300-500k) year while working a few times a month but the you're running out of runway very quickly and you got to retire. Get a million dollar pension but your health has suffered over the last 40 years sitting for long hours and sleeping like a shift worker. I don't see many old retired pilots, tells you something about the job.
