I could use Photoshop in my art creation, but I refuse to. Affinity Photo is good enough and doesn't cost a lot. I might miss a few features but my life is more pleasant without Adobe.

I'm quite happy with The GIMP

Due to my past experiences, I have not used it in a while, but I have always hated it (and that is not something I usually feel towards software). Such a terrible UI for a product related to art development is baffling.

That said, I understand there is a ton of open source engineering that goes into it, and I have a great respect for the effort.

The UI is eh. It is functional and really not all that different from Photoshop, though it lacks a lot of the spit-n-shine polish that PS has.

What is your problem with it? Is it too ugly? My complaint is that it takes too much clicking to do a lot of stuff.

Same. I'm a time traveller from the year 2152 and I was very happy when GIMP added non-destructive layers last month.

It is not like people couldn't create beautiful pictures before those non-destructive layers.

People tend to complain about some so called missing features while they were living happily without them when their favorite software didn't have them too.

People could also create beautiful pictures with daubs of ochre and charcoal mixed with spittle and fat.

GIMP is atrocious.

I am happy too. I left photoshop 20 years ago. I don't mind Krita as well but I am used to Gimp so this is my go to.

Unfortunately I use them in my day job. I wish they would just release normal "buy it once" and enjoy for the life of your OS/Hardware

I wish there was a good FOSS lightroom alternative. I tried darktable but it doesn't import the camera develop settings for raw files.
