I am embarrassed that candy was such an important part of my childhood.
I enjoyed the "regionalism" of candy. The first time I saw Mentos candy for example was when our family took a road trip across the U.S. border into Canada. And then there were local favorites (here in the Midwest) like "Cherry Mash" candy that you would not see in other parts of the U.S.
To this day I am tempted to do something like pick up an "Idaho Spud" when vacationing along the Snake River canyon....
