In recent years there is a diagnosis "schizophreniform" which I believe basically means "looks like schizophrenia but we're not jumping to conclusions if this is the first episode".

I don't know if that is universal or resulted from the influence of the paper in the article, but it is a thing, anyway.

The other thing is that hearing voices is not something universal or essential among people experiencing psychosis or schizophrenia.
