This should be investigated, and he should probably be reprimanded. He should quickly disclose any other documents he's kept, and if he's found to be repeatedly lying, he should lose his security clearance -- and probably prosecuted.
Though at the rate the Justice Department has been proceeding on his predecessor, I don't expect them to achieve any of that for several years. If they were to do any of that before handling previous cases, it will seem to me more like partisanship than serious treatment of the material.
One can only conclude that there is negligible security regarding US classified documents, and that dozens of politicians have carelessly filed and discarded hundreds and thousands of documents without any regard for safety. It’s all a big, open mess with, no doubt, foreign agents happily taking advantage of it.
