Europe invented the printing press, the steam engine, the railroad, electric light, radio, the internal combustion engine, the airplane - plus a whole lot more!

Is that not being good at innovating?

BTW, I'm born, raised, and live in the U.S. It just strikes me as odd that someone would claim Europe isn't good at innovating seeing as how they created most of the elements comprising our modern world.

Are we comparing the now or arbitrary periods in the past?

European companies like ARM and ASML dominate the chip industry. There are literally thousands of world leading companies in Europe that you have never heard of. Because they sell their products to companies you have heard of.

The Wright Brothers were American. Who are you attributing the invention of airplanes to?

There were several powered flights prior to the Wright Brothers. The Europeans had already figured out lift and control surfaces. They had even figured out thrust, but they were using small steam engines so they could maximize the power to weight ratio, but it wasn't enough power for human flight. It was the Wright Brothers who used the internal combustion engine, another European invention, to solve the thrust problem. There's legitimate contention as to whether they were even the first to do that, but they're officially recognized as the first airplane for human flight.

My point being the Wright Flyer didn't just pop out of thin air (ha!). The Wright Brothers stood on the shoulders of giants, European giants.
