Twitter will delete 1.5B accounts to free up space: Elon Musk (indiatimes.com)

Finally I can be sure that all my dozen unused accounts will be deleted for good this time.

Thanks, due to my broken brain now I've got that weird bald guy from Arrested Development stuck in my head[1] :-)

(I mostly used Twitter for comedy towards the end -- apparently it creates a problem if you start tweeting like you're gunning for a guest spot on "Chapo Trap House" while collecting lewd DMs from local party officials like Pokemon cards -- my account was suspended. Womp womp!)

(But in all seriousness, Elon was on my blocklist and has not properly navigated that conflict of interest.)

1.5B dormant accounts, probably less than 1TB of storage. And as a bonus you get to hijack someones old deleted twitter handle.

The title is wrong "free up space" is in reference to freeing up the accounts for others to use.

The most technically vulnerable parts of Twitter are the legacy databases. These will fail first. Some of them may already be inoperative. Calling this "space saving" is face-saving.
