HRL Laboratories - Quantum Software | Software Engineer | Malibu, CA, USA | Intern, Full-time | https://quantum.hrl.com/

HRL Labs builds quantum computers. A lot of software is needed for this:

- Data platform and internal tools, written in Python. (Junior to senior)

- Optimizing quantum compilers, written in Common Lisp. (Senior)

- Experimental physics software, written in Python. (Mid to senior)

- Low-level control software, written in C++. (Senior)

- ...and more.

Most positions don't actually require any knowledge of quantum, but for some roles, it does help to have some experience working in an academic discipline.

Interview process: phone call, take-home coding exercise, video interview, reference checks, offer. No LeetCode or puzzles.

HRL Laboratories is financially stable, and perhaps the closest one can get to a "Bell Labs" experience and incentive structure. We don't build product in the traditional sense, so our incentives are aligned to doing things methodically and correctly. Out-of-the-box thinking is standard practice, and welcomed.

Only US Citizens who are able to move to the Los Angeles area are eligible. We do combined in-office (more like in-laboratory) and WFH.

Email is in bio if you want more details or want to apply through the side-door. Front-door is here: https://quantum.hrl.com/careers/

"Only US Citizens who are able to move to the Los Angeles area are eligible."

Not smart to advertise a job for US citizens only. You can't discriminate a broader class of people for employment even for national security positions.

Here is the actual statement from your company's website:

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
