I wouldn’t be surprised. It’s a very ambitious goal to do on someone’s own. It’s not a monumental task: it’s a directed graph of interdependent monumental tasks, each needing to be perfectly executed.
My bet is that they’ll end with a sizeable number of patents, at least.
So I suppose that end game is those patents getting bought by some big name semi manufacturer and quietly incorporated into future chips using different terminology... and then folks will smugly talk about what a terrible idea it all was.
