Makes me think there's no such thing as working for ABC Inc. or XYZ C-Corp. Nowadays--and I'd be happy to read the links in replies with evidence to the contrary--you're always working for a division of Corporate America.
It could have been different, and in many ways there was a time when it was so. There's still some cases where this happens, I guess. You just have to be much more culturally attuned, ideally monocultural in fact, and have the right instincts to know how to work the system and get them to compete.
There is definitely an alignment of people and their interests that work like that. After all, paying people more is considered by bankers as an unwelcome transfer of wealth from capital to labor.
