Solar power could soon be unaffordable for new California consumers (ksby.com)

Net metering was a good policy when solar energy made a tiny contribution to the power grid.

In some countries like Germany it has gone too far. Wholesale energy prices turn negative when solar and wind are abundant but turn astronomical when they aren't. The financial incentives to run a reliable grid aren't there.

We're not going to get to decarbonization by simple minded "nudges" that make people feel good because we're sending money towards something "good".

You can't get to the moon just by pointing your rocket in the direction of the moon. It takes a plan that goes from beginning to end and decarbonization is like that.

The biggest threat to decarbonization in California is the impending shutdown of the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant. If that isn't stopped it's going to reverse most if not all the project that's been made with renewables.

Is this a "tax" on rooftop solar, or the removal of a subsidy?
