The British monarch is still officially the “Defender of the Faith” and “Supreme Governor of the Church of England” has been for 500 years. She/he appoints high-ranking members of the C of E in consultation with the Prime Minster and the wonderfully named Lords Spiritual.

Which is why only Britain is allowed to write tomes like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. They have cool naming in their DNA. Or maybe it’s the weather.
