Why a blog and not videos or podcasts? (flaviocopes.com)

A friend read my blog and told me to start making YouTube videos (well, good ones. I already had bad ones covered). He sent me a link to the "old" blog of a popular fitness YouTuber as an example of someone who had successfully moved on from blogging.

It was a weird contrast to compare the two. The blogger personality was completely different from the YouTuber.

The blog was deep enough, contemplative, gentle, and pretty funny. It needed a new template due to software issues but it was pretty great overall.

The YouTube channel had clearly gone pro-algo and the poor guy looked exhausted to me. His latest video was complaining about sleep deprivation and meeting audience expectations. To me it was like his job was now so much more about performance characteristics in terms of being a YouTuber, as opposed to fitness performance.

The video content was far less contemplative except when it came to the videos about how much he was hating life.

I don't know if there will ever be a less taxing form of social video, or maybe there already is, but I still want to ask that guy if, all things being equal, he'd rather be blogging. Or, like the author here suggests, both-ing through it somehow.
