IIUC, the storage mechanism (say SSD drive and firmware) is part of trusted base for verification due to TOCTOU design issues.

Nice difficulty step up for generic low-effort attacks, however, customized SSD firmware doesn't seem like unobtainium, so I wouldn't actually trust it.
