the only thing backing the argument for less restrictions is a 2006 comment from the world health organization (that i can't access from the article) saying travel restrictions and screening at borders were ineffective.
well, lately we saw many prominent health experts and scientists often change their mind and remind us that that's what the scientific method or process is all about.
i am curious to see what whoever at WHO wrote or said the above think about it 15 years later.
