There is an old saying "when your eyes are bigger than your belly". Questionable if the deepfake was even faked, but just taking some time to confirm the deal via some other means would have saved $xk . There's enough other signs of a scam here.

But then if they had, I think they would have realised it wasn't a deep fake.
Like Bigfoot or drone swarms or Russians spending all day shooting invisible weapons at diplomats, the lack of footage is not lack of surveillance. I do think at some point someone will cross a chimpanzee with a human though.
