Yup. Further, thawing tundra, ocean acidification, burning forests have also joined the positive feedback loop. And throw in "blue ocean" and thawing methane for bonus points.

Meaning: Eliminate all human activity today and atmospheric carbon would continue to increase, the earth warming will continue to accelerate.

And we're still blathering about recycling plastics, the politics of going carbon neutral by year 2030 (or whenever), the morality of geoengineering, blah blah blah.

Our only chance is to quickly remove carbon faster than it's being added. From both human activity and earth's own natural runaway feedback loops.

Full stop.

(Cue the inevitable misanthropic pedant "well acxshwally, earth will be just fine w/o humans".)

Don't forget this happy little Earth hole: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darvaza_gas_crater

edit: upon further investigation, maybe it's not much worse than a bunch of cows farting..

It’d cost less than a dollar per gallon to recapture the CO2 emitted by gasoline.

That seems completely affordable to me (vs the alternatives).

You might be referring to capturing at the exhaust source. Agreed.

Bigger trick will be removal of stuff already in the air.
