I think New York City, my place of residence has really dropped the ball on ensuring the health of its residents.
The public service commercials here regarding Covid-19 only mention masks, testing and social distancing. It's been that way for roughly 8 months. How can they possibly not add Vitamin D supplementation to their public guidance?
It makes me skeptical and quite cynical of their competency.

As someone who's in the area, too - yea it's gross and insufferable since everyone around here's a liberal championing the supposed competence of Democrats.
Yet here we are in the northeast with some of the highest death tolls, and Cuomo with his laughable poster and Close Encounters-like mountain diorama, claiming he's a vision of competence.
They claimed they figured it out with masks and that's clearly not the case, given we're right back where we started with case numbers.
Sorry, the nursing homes got wiped out under your watch. Is this competence?!
Maybe because public health officials fell they got burnt from advocating masks, after quite rightfully people pointed out the relative lack of evidence supporting them, and have gone too far in the other direction? Tons of officials made in hindsight ridiculous claims like masks being more effective than vaccines, as well as many statements along the lines that if only more people wore masks, that'd be enough to put an end to the pandemic.
Promoting Vitamin D now would likely result in a mixture of unwarranted hype over its effectiveness, angry questions as to why this wasn't recommended sooner, and people pointing out how counterproductive stay-at-home orders were in terms of getting Vitamin D from the sun. It's a big political risk to take.

I don't mean to either agree with or question you. But I hope the above adds context.
The entire crisis has been about leaders trying to dodge any responsibility for people dying by choosing the most medieval and oppressive policies as a safe bet.
Unwilling to take risks(or allow people to act according to their own risk assessment) for fear of the retribution; yet here we are with people unable to work, their livelihoods destroyed, scores of dead, etc.
There are also encouraging ivermectin results, both treatment and prophylaxis from (at least) Egypt, Argentina and Israel (some registered on clinical trials us gov site)
Am on phone now, will try to find references when on desktop.
Here's one from Iraq: https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.10.26.20219345v... ; I've seen one from Egypt too, and I know one in Israel is ongoing but partial results are already statistically singificant (but I can only find reports in Hebrew right now - if you can read hebrew you can google it yourself).
