Any ideas how virtualization works?

Can I run Windows VM?

Unlikely, or very slowly, because Windows x86 would need CPU emulation.

there's arm64 builds for windows.

Microsoft even released a Surface device with an ARM processor.

People generally want to run Windows because of its huge software catalogue. That's thrown out of the window if you use the arm64 version of Windows. Pun intended.

They aren't generally available, only to OEM's.

I think they Apple said last time that you'd be able to run ARM Windows, not x86 as of yet.

AFAIK, virtualization will work, but dual booting will not work.

Yeah, rosetta will support x86 emulation. Might be slow though.

But that's for macOS binaries. Not for VMs.

"With the translation technology of Rosetta 2, users will be able to run existing Mac apps that have not yet been updated, including those with plug-ins. Virtualization technology allows users to run Linux"

Nowhere does this mention virtualizing x86 VMs.

In fact, the virtualization framework does not seem to have anything to do with rosetta at all. Note that those are two different sentences, and they appear to be not related.

Virtualization of ARM Linux.
