Security is a multi-dimensional problem. Moving the port helps reduce noise, that is, you get a higher signal to noise ratio. Other dimensions include using ssh keys instead of passwords, disabling root logins, adding fail2ban, and 2fa. Using some or all of these modifications from the defaults will improve ssh security.
