If this had been published 20 years ago, I'd totally agree, but we already seem to be entering an era where video gaming is starting to cannibalize itself. There are young people playing mobile games who seem completely uninterested in consoles.
Also perhaps missing some negative trends. Saying user-generated content is important is true, but companies fight against it more than they used to. The more games rely on paid DLC, or cash shops for things like costumes, the less they want to allow things like modding, as it can directly undermine it. I never bought the Skyrim DLC because there were tons of great mods for free.
