Wisdom from a random Silverwood Uber driver

I had one of the more inspiring moments while taking an Über pool last night after seeing the Lakers.

When the driver dropped others off, I stopped the music on my earpads, inclined to talk to him because of his cool accent, I started a conversation asking if he’s feeling tired.

He responded: “I love to work at this time. Daytime is pure chaos. It takes forever to complete rides being stuck in traffic and hitting the required 140 Uber ride limit is not an easy task in this city.”

I asked: So.. How do you do it?

He responded: You know, Uber pool is my specialty. I drove Taxi for 15 years before Uber put me out of business.

He made a pause.

I asked: Whats your secret?

Turning up the music volume in his car, he looked at me and said: “This is the music I play”. The music that was playing was kind of a New York Frank Sinatra style, but without the vocals.

He said: “This is the music for before going to sleep. When people enter my car, they get to relax. I don’t want any drama.”

Me: hmm... interesting (thinking and realizing how brilliant his approach is)

He continued: “I don’t always talk to people. I talk to some people, and when I want. There are certain people that I don’t want to talk to.”

My dropoff was approaching, and he switched the radio to some mainstream station about politics and said: “Their brainwashing starts in school. And I pray for them daily”.

A pause.

And then we said a good bye — Good luck, sir.
