I think many people may be surprised how much of quantitative investing is similar to what was done here: finding strategies that are proven to work well over time and in different market conditions. It's not all black boxes and HFT.

Here is a great video of Cliff Assess of AQR, one of the largest quant hedge funds basically saying the same thing [0]. They focus on Value, Momentum, Carry, and Defensive.
