Unless Google takes action against Apple.

What’s Google going to do though? Drop Gmail on iOS?

I can’t see Google coming out of anything like that unscathed. Best case they lose customers, worst case they get an anti-trust case thrown at them.

Unless there is something else that Google can do that will work in their favor that I’m missing.

On what basis? They clearly violated the rules.

Google doesn't need a basis to retaliate other than "we want to". Maybe they'll yank the Apple Music app from the Android app store or something.

There are contractual obligations for both parties. Taking retaliatory action that is not permitted by the terms of the contract will result in a lawsuit.

So... in a fit of pique at Apple, retaliate against their own customers? Or even Apple's customers? That is not a great plan.

"The rules" were not given by God, government or the people. The rules were written by the same company that enforces them and Google, Facebook or anyone else can make the same type of "Rules".

The rules were mutually agreed upon in their enterprise account legal contract someone signed. That legal structure is acknowledged by the government and implicitly the people.

If you've done business with Google or Facebook, they behave _exactly_ the same way.

Who should write the rules for the Iphone platform in your view?

Google already pays Apple $9 billion to have Google as default search engine on iPhone.
